While it's not exactly the right time of year for a tennis release, Top Spin is a welcome addition to the Xbox lineup. However there's a shadow looming larger over it - Virtua Tennis. Can Microsoft's game match up or will it do an Anna K, looking great but doesn't win anything?

Top Spin tennis is yet another superb Live enabled game. The career mode is engaging and the player creator alone is a lot of fun. Tennis games clearly don't appeal to everyone, but this is a truly great simulation of the sport and a wonderful multiplayer game with on one console or taken online.

I'm amazed either of the boys managed to form an opinion on this game. At times, they seemed to be more interested in Anna Kournikova's digital form than gameplay mechanics. But that shows you how good the graphics are. The gameplay is equally solid and this is my favourite sports simulation of the year.

I would have liked to see more current players from the world tour but despite that, Top Spin is a great game. The controls are simple to pick up and anyone can manage a long rally after five minutes play. It's an ideal party game and one with great depth both offline and online.
